Unit 1 Reflection

I feel as if I have already gained a lot of new writing skills from this class.  The free writes at the beginning of each class were a difficult task at the beginning of the semester.  I thought that keeping my pen/pencil moving at all times and always flowing new thoughts and jotting them down was extremely difficult.  As we did more and more of these small assignments, I felt my thoughts coming more concisely and and consistently.  I feel that even though these assignments only took up a total of five to seven minutes each class, they have helped me tremendously. While brainstorming for my Unit 1 Project, I wanted to do something that was interesting for me and would keep me engaged.  The more I thought about it, the more I realized this whole class was based on a concept that would keep me engaged regardless: technology.  This open ended sort of assignment was difficult to wrap my head around at first because I was not used to having this much freedo...

Unit 1 Portfolio

http://www.english.illinois.edu/-people-/faculty/debaron/essays/pencils.htm   In Dennis Baron’s “From Pencils to Pixels: The Stages of Literacy Technology”, he describes how writing technologies have advanced since the first tool which was just a mere pencil.  He goes onto explain how the pencil slowly evolved into new forms of technology that people used to share their ideas and communicate. On would come the printing press, telegraph, telephone, typewriters, and of course the computer.  And as also when something new and innovative comes out, there were many critiques that came along with them.  Each technology was shaped for the consumer ultimately.  Today, we see how much the computer has changed from what we first knew it as twenty years ago; a machine that was basically a large-scale calculator.  Now, the computer has been molded into something much more that we would not be able to live without due to the consumer’s command for incr...

Free Writes Unit 1

This free write really stands out to me because I live in the suburbs of New Jersey.  I go on to explain in my writing how important the front lawn is to some people who live around me.  One aspect that I did not get to mention due to time constraint was that when I was younger, I used to help my father and grandmother with the flowers and lawn.  I was still very young and this made me feel helpful and included as if I was contributing to their work.

Surveys/Polls/Quizes

https://twitter.com/OrangeMike337/status/1039973884227936257   I decided to make my own poll for this project and to post it on Twitter where my followers could answer.  The question the poll posed was, “What is your favorite music genre of these”?  The options the poll had included these musical genres: Country, Rock, Hip-hop, and Pop.  My personal favorite genre is Hip-hop so I was curious as to what my peers would claim as theirs.  The poll was active for two hours and drew in a total of forty-five responses.  To my surprise, Hip-hop actually gathered forty percent of the final vote; therefore, Hip-hop had eighteen votes.  Country was a close second with thirty eight percent of the vote giving it a total of seventeen votes.  Both Rock and Pop received five votes and lagged behind in a shared last place spot.  This surprised me because I feel as if most of what is played on the radio for our generation is Pop and Hip-hop....

These are the Quaker Oats that I used in order to make myself a meal after practice.  This is very nutritious and helpful for dieting. This is a key ingredient to my oatmeal and to my diet.  My trainer recommended this so I always try and use it when I can.   The honey adds extra flavor to the oatmeal.  Just a splash of this will help get some of the other not so pleasant tastes down.  This was the final product.  The meal is great for a post workout and is very filling.  Some bananas were added to give flavor and make the oatmeal more filling. After a long practice I finally have a meal that will help me refuel for another long days work.  I will prepare this meal again before my classes the following morning. Reflection When you ask the average forty year old person what a selfie is, most will tell you that it is a picture usually taken on a smartphone that has the person capturing the portrait in it.  I believe this...
